چکیده
Parallel to the developments in the technology, a large number of cutting fluids were developed and used. Cutting fluids should contain suitable additions depending on the workpiece to be machined and the machining parameters. Their lubrication effects should be considered at the lower cutting speeds while their cooling effects should be considered at higher cutting speeds. In this study, description of the cutting fluids used metal cutting industry was made and the guidelines for selection of the suitable cutting fluid for a given application were determined. In addition to the cooling and lubrication effects of the cutting fluids, their effects on human health and environment were also examined. The importance of these fluids in metal cutting was mentioned and the guidelines in the use of these fluids and their effects on human health were reviewed.

Environmentally Friendly Machining: Vegetable Based Cutting Fluids
Abstract A wide variety of cutting fluids are commercially available in the cutting fluid suppliers in order to provide machining performances for a number of industries. In machining, mineral, synthetic and semi-synthetic cutting fluids are widely used but, recently, uses of vegetable based cutting fluids have been increased. Although, these cutting fluids are beneficial in the industries, the...
متن کاملApplication of vegetable oil-based metalworking fluids in machining ferrous metals—A review
The increasing attention to the environmental and health impacts of industrial activities by governmental regulations and by the growing awareness level in the society is forcing industrialists to reduce the use of mineral oil-based metalworking fluids as cutting fluid. Cutting fluids have been used extensively in metal cutting operations for the last 200 years. In the beginning, cutting fluids...
متن کاملMonitoring nitrite, N-nitrosodiethanolamine, and mutagenicity in cutting fluids used in the metal industry.
We carried out an integrated environmental/biological monitoring program to evaluate cancer hazards among metal industry workers exposed to cutting fluids. Several cutting fluids were sampled according to response to a semiquantitative nitrite rapid test in metal factories in central Italy. The nitrite-positive samples were analyzed for nitrite and nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA) content and muta...

The most common machining methods in machining are turning, milling, drilling and grinding. Significant studies are conducted in machining industry and academic circles in order to measure the cutting force during these processes. This study includes a review of these studies, a categorization of similar ones and detailed information about measurement systems. Through the review of studies, we ...
متن کاملBiological monitoring of workers exposed to N-nitrosodiethanolamine in the metal industry.
Biological monitoring of occupational hazards was performed in workers using cutting fluids containing N-nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA). The study involved a group of 25 male subjects from some metal factories in central Italy who used cutting fluids with an NDELA content of > or = 5 mg/l (high-exposure group) and a group of 37 males exposed to cutting fluids with an NDELA content < 5 mg/l (low-...
